Fireside Chat: Take the Lead: David and Goliath

Working in a siloed environment is a thing of the past. Regardless of the industry vertical, the ecosystem plays a critical role to unlock and propel business growth. For instance, a beacon for innovation, startups are mushrooming across the globe, breaking geographical barriers, and posing stiff competition to large players. Unhindered by the same limitations of large businesses, startups are able to innovate in ways that larger organizations fail to.

MNCs have recognized the significant importance of start-ups and are collaborating, partnering, and acquiring start-ups to fuel growth, increasing adjacent capabilities and remaining competitive. This fire side chat will showcase how organizations can get better return on investment through their interaction with the ecosystem and provide insights into the mechanisms to leverage synergies and create competencies and value through these partnerships

Panel Discussion: Elysium: Decoding digital disruptions in Healthcare

The healthcare industry is revitalizing and transforming itself and has become inexorably digitized. EHRs actively help track patient health and assess harmful drug interactions. There is real-time communication from devices today- Fitness trackers help track daily exercise and food consumption and a connected heart monitor will send immediate alerts to emergency responders if issues arise. A slew of apps that act as personal trainers to lifesaving pocket-sized devices, wearables and nearables represent an enormous wave of digital disruption for the healthcare industry.

People are opening up to the idea that robots and drones can be used as a force for good in healthcare. As the aging population grows, so will the use of robotic health aids or ‘healthbots’.  This panel discussion is an overview of how the healthcare industry is adapting to this new wave of digital disruption.

Track 1: Panel Discussion: Moneyball: The Era of the Network Orchestrators

The technology shifts that the world has witnessed over the last few years have brought about a swarm of spectacular changes in the way companies do business.  Disruptive business models such as ‘network orchestration’ are jolting the cages of traditional commercial enterprise.

These are businesses that create a network of peers where participants interact and share in value creation. And like all big technology shifts, this one is rocking the business boat. This panel discussion throws light on how the network orchestration business model can be leveraged and why network orchestration has become a meta-competency for a networked world.

The talent landscape has become an entirely different ball game as compared to a few years ago. The promise of Industry 4.0 is built on innovations in design (generative design), materials (architected materials), machines (3D printers and others) and the digital thread that enable rapid reactions to changes in markets and environment. The prize of shorter lead times, lighter and higher performance products, cost reductions and new markets has driven many leading manufacturers to radically change the way they do business

Many companies today are being seriously challenged by market forces, technology shifts and the changing dynamics of a global economy. Businesses are transitioning from product-based models to service-based models. One of the early adopters of the same was IBM, when they moved away from their traditional hardware business into the services segment. This panel discussion is about the why and how of companies adopting the services model.

Track 3: Panel Discussion: Good Will Hunting: Organization Makeover for the Born Digital

Gen X belongs to the days of yore. Meet Generation Y- the next wave of talent that has set foot into the global workforce arena. They’re sharp, canny, and perspicacious and are really on the ball. This emerging workforce is no longer interested in the command-and-control leadership. With enterprises expanding their interests across the globe, they are faced with a heterogeneous workforce.

A large piece of this pie constitutes young men and women (the 20 – 25 age group), accounting for 60% of the global workforce. This new talent pool is adept at employing digital technologies in all spheres of life- including work. They prefer ‘open and collaborative’ workplaces. Work-life integration is top priority for them. And, they detest being confined to the cubicle. The current workforce wants work to be ‘an experience’ rather than a mere source of funds.

The stage is set- clearly, the workforce is transforming in many ways, bringing in fresh challenges for businesses to deal with. This panel discussion is a lowdown on the plans and strategies to be devised by organizations in order to effectively manage this new workforce.

So what is it about Open Source that has made it a phenomenal success? The fact that it is free, and that it comes sans all of the licensing restrictions. Further, the business agility that open source offers is quickly eroding the main stream. Being ‘open’ is a big benefit in the world of closed network ecosystems.

Communities such as GitHub promote open source development and sharing, large organizations such as Toyota are opening up their patents. Tesla went open source for fostering the use of electric cars and increase the rate of adoption. The new Tesla powerwall is open source too. There are numerous benefits of switching over to open source and a lot of people are catching on.

This panel discussion throws light on the transformation that open source has brought about in the software world.
