Many companies today are being seriously challenged by market forces, technology shifts and the changing dynamics of a global economy. Businesses are transitioning from product-based models to service-based models. One of the early adopters of the same was IBM, when they moved away from their traditional hardware business into the services segment. This transition, however, requires many new competencies such as customization, maintaining customer loyalty, price flexibility etc.
